Avetta®, the leader in intelligent work readiness across global supply chains, today celebrated Wyatt Bradbury, MEng, CSP, CHST, CIT and Principal of Health and Safety at the company, for receiving the inaugural Dotson Safety Leadership Award from the National Safety Council (NSC).

Established through the Kyle B. Dotson Endowment, the Dotson Safety Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding Certified Safety Professional under the age of 40 who demonstrates leadership, innovation, ethical excellence and meaningful contributions to safety. NSC selected Bradbury for his broad contributions to the safety profession and his work translating research, data and industry standards into practical approaches that help organizations strengthen safety systems and make better-informed decisions. That includes his valuable work on Avetta’s Safety Maturity Index (SMI)—developed in partnership with NSC—and award-winning Cultural Maturity Index (CMI).

A significant focus of Bradbury’s work at Avetta is the company’s SMI and CMI. The SMI is a systems-based approach to safer working environments that goes beyond traditional metrics by identifying, assessing and surfacing the maturity of companies’ safety management systems. Bradbury has played a pivotal role in its continued development. He also led the development of the CMI, the first organizational culture maturity assessment tool mapped to occupational health and safety standards from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Organization for Standardization. Together, the SMI and CMI give organizations a clearer, more complete view of both system performance and the cultural conditions that shape it—helping hiring clients and suppliers strengthen trust, align on expectations and operate as a connected, high-performing community.

Beyond his work at Avetta, Bradbury is an adjunct professor of safety management systems at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he has instructed more than 400 graduate engineering students since 2021. He has also contributed to multiple ANSI standards, including serving on the subcommittee for ANSI TR-Z590.6-23: Guidance on Personal Protective Equipment for Women and co-representing Avetta on the ANSI Z16 committee, which maintains the ANSI/ASSP Z16.1-2022: Safety and Health Metrics and Performance Measures standard, along with Scott DeBow, Director, Health, Safety and Environmental at Avetta.

Strategies for Effective Contractor and Supplier Management⁠,” and “Management of Change? Change Management? (Consideration of Systems and People)⁠” in collaboration with Geoffrey Goodman, Principal, Solution Delivery at Avetta.
